Jeff Sessions Is Done

Jeff Sessions has resigned at President Trump’s request. There will be other shake ups in the administration.
Jeff Sessions has been a stalwart for law and order. His relationship with the president has been difficult ever since he recused himself from the Russia investigation. History will prove that to be the best thing he could have done, not only for the Department of Justice, but also the president.
The US Justice Department is not meant to be a political arm of the Executive Branch. It has always operated independently, sometimes too independently as we learned from J. Edgar Hoover and his FBI. In recent administrations, specifically Attorney General Janet Reno and Attorney General Eric Holder, we have seen what happens when the office does become political.
The IRS scandal, in which Holder refused to investigate because it looked bad on Obama. Reno, the incidents at Waco and Ruby Ridge, because they looked bad for Clinton… along with many other examples of those two ignoring the law. They did untold damage to our country.
Jeff Sessions not only defied the president, he dared him to replace him while the Muller investigation was in full swing. This act, which effectively retires Sessions was a “profile in courage”. He has done well to help clean up partisan corruption in the department and he should be thanked for it.
I’m sure the press will call him a racist because he has a southern accent… and, according to them, everything is racist. I have some hope that we are going to move past some of this. The Muller Report will be out soon. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer seem to be in agreement that the adults in the room need to start running their party again and for the first time in a while, I am hopeful that we will be okay. It’s a new day… some might even say “Morning in America”.
